ONION HARVEST IN PUNJAB , PAKISTAN : RELIABILITY AND SUCCESS OF SAIS RED AND PINK SHORT DAY ONION

Every year between late April and early May, we visit our exclusive distributor, Ets. Ch Ahmed & Sons, in Gujuranwala in the Punjab region of Pakistan.

This period coincides with the harvest of red short day onions, a crucial time for local agriculture .

The onions  harvest in Punjab is more than just a commercial event; it is a season of celebration where farmers finally gather the fruits of several months of dedication.

This year, the focus was particularly on our Tropea Record variety and our latest red F1 hybrids.

During our visit, Mr. Muhammad Saleem, together with his son Ayyan and Dr. Habib Ullah,Product Development Manager , shared positive results regarding the current campaign. Despite an unusually rainy season that challenged many crops,

Tropea Record demonstrated excellent plant health and stability, confirming its reputation for earlieness and high uniformity.

We continue to work closely with the team at Ets. Ch Ahmed & Sons to ensure that Punjab farmers have access to the best seed technology. After years of successful trials, the commercial distribution of new hybrid pink onions F1, will begin in Punjab during the 2026/27 crop season.
