‘Horticultural production in Saudi Arabia is going through a positive period reflecting the government’s desire to reduce dependence on imports from other countries and favour exports. The current population of the country has surpassed 37 million people with almost 12 million foreigners in 2025 from Egypt, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Sudan, etc.

Saudi Arabia is becoming almost import-independent in winter and spring vegetable production in open field or under tunnels, while it continues to import from neighbouring countries in the summer due to prohibitive temperatures, except for production in high-cost air-conditioned greenhouses.
