BENEFICIAL PROPERTIES OF CHICKPEAS
Chickpeas have always been one of the symbols of the Mediterranean diet and have recently gained even more popularity due to their healthy properties along with their versatility in recipes. They are indeed the key ingredient for Hummus, but also a nice touch in salads, soups, pureed soups and many more recipes. Chickpeas are a source of vegetal proteins, fibers and vitamins, but also rich in magnesium, which is good for heart circulation. Furthermore, chickpeas can help balancing the blood glucose level and are highly digestible due to the stimulation of gastric juices and enzymes of pancreas, therefore they help to regulate the intestinal balance. SAIS offers three varieties of chickpeas:
- Medium early cycle.
• Strong and upright plant, high 50/60 cm.
• Oval pod with 1-2 grains. Round grain with medium size,
smotoh skin and yellow-white colour at full ripening.
• Suitable for processing.

- Strong plant with semi-erect habit of growth, average height 50 cm, mid-early cycle.
- Oval pod with 1-2 grains inside.
- Round and wrinkled grain with medium-big size and yellow colour at full ripening.
- Suitable for fresh market.
- Strong and upright plant, high 50/60 cm with medium cycle.
- Oval pod with 1-2 grains.
- Round and wrinkled grain with medium-big size and yellow colour at full ripening.
- Suitable for fresh market and processing.
- HR:Ascochyta.
