2024 SEED CROP CAMPAIGN IN ITALY IS OVER

At the end of the vegetable and aromatic seed harvests 2024 in Italy, we can state that the balance is on average positive for the majority of crops both from a quantitative and qualitative point of view.

The season has been particularly hot and dry, with a lack of rainfall in the periods in which it would have been necessary, and torrential rains during the ripening and harvesting phases.

Nonetheless, the skill of farmers and the use of advanced technical tools and equipments in the fields and in post-harvest to cope with climate change have made it possible to obtain on average positive harvests for most species.

Eearly maturing crop varieties (peas, turnips, rocket) and medium-early maturing crop varieties items (radishes, dills, etc.) have performed quite well.

Broad beans and late-harvested varieties (chicories, carrots, onions, beans, basils, beets etc.) have performed less well with consequent limited availability due to excessive heat.
